When visit a doctor with respiratory problems, you will most likely be given medication to suppress the cough.
However, this is just another example of modern medicine using a band-aid solution rather than getting to the root of the problem. If you are coughing, that is because that is what your body is supposed to do to help you recover.
Our Lung and respiratory support formula does two things:
- Supports respiration and helps you breathe
- Promotes coughing
Suppressing a cough may make you feel better in the short-term, but in the long-term, it will draw out your illness and make it last far longer.
Coughing is your body’s way of expelling toxins, and suppressing a cough means the toxins have a much harder time leaving your body. This formula may cause you to have a good cough for a few hours, rather than having a constant cough that lasts for weeks or months on end.
How it works:
The herbs used in this formula are what are called expectorant herbs. That is they promote debris and biuld up in the lungs to be expelled. They have traditionally been used for cases of coughs, colds and other respiratory problems.
- BRIGHAM TEA: has been traditionally used to treat colds. It contains the alkaloid ephedrine, which stimulates the lungs by widening the bronchioles and invigorates the central nervous system. It has been used by those with asthma or other respiratory problems, and as a decongestant. It has an astringent effect on the body, which lessens bodily secretions such as mucous.
- LOBEL-IA HERB: was traditionally been used by the native Americans to relieve asthma and other respiratory disorders. Lobelia contains an alkaloid which relaxes the muscles—including those of the respiratory tract—and relieves spasms. This same alkaloid helps to stimulate deep breathing and increases respiration rates. It also dialates the bronchial give your passage way more room to breath. This herb is considered a poison in America. So external use only should be used. However, it has been used for hundreds of years. Samual Thompson, the legendary herbalist used this solely in his practice to help thousands of people.
- ELECAMPANE ROOT: has been used since the time of the Roman Empire. It was used particularly by the Romans as a remedy for colds, due to its ability to draw out phlegm. It continues to be used for this purpose today. It has a stimulating effect on the respiratory system and warms the lungs, clearing out accumulated mucous from the chest. Elecampane is used for a wide range of chest complaints, but specifically for cases of bronchitis and bronchial asthma. It relieves the linings of the bronchial tube and is used as an expectorant.
- COLTSFOOT LEAF: has been traditionally used to treat coughs and bronchial congestion. Coltsfoot is very soothing on the respiratory tract and has been used as an expectorant—to help the patient more easily cough up phlegm. In some cases, it has been used as a remedy for asthma, and for the relief of chest spasms. Additionally, this herb has been used for treating chronic coughs such as emphysema, as well as whooping cough, and even laryngitis and blocked nasal passages.
- HOREHOUND LEAF: this herb has been used for many years to relieve congested airways and excess mucous. Horehound helps to loosen phlegm from the linings of the throat, lungs and sinuses, and is used for sinus infections. It is commonly used to treat wheezing and chronic bronchitis, hacking coughs and whooping cough. Horehound works by encouraging the secretion of runnier, thinner mucous which is easier for the body to expel through the act of coughing than the thicker mucous which often forms as a result of respiratory conditions. This allows the body to more easily eliminate pathogens and toxins, so the patient can have a faster recovery. The leaves of the Horehound plant have both antiseptic and anti-spasmodic properties, and is particularly useful for respiratory problems in children.
- LICORICE ROOT: has traditionally been used to treat colds and coughs, hay fever and bronchial asthma due to its expectorant, anti-allergenic and anti-inflammatory properties and the soothing effect it has on the airways.
- KOLA NUT: is a great source of theophylline—a substance which widens the bronchioles of asthma and bronchitis sufferers.
- COFFEE BEAN: perhaps one of the most well-known and widely-consumed herb, coffee contains caffeine which increases blood flow. It encourages deep breathing as it dilates the bronchioles.
- CHERRY BARK: has been used for a number of ailments, including dry coughs and catarrh. When blended with coltsfoot (also included in this formula) it has been used for asthma and whooping cough. Cherry bark has soothing and astringent properties and helps clear the mucous membranes.
- THYME LEAF: this herb has antiseptic properties to help boost the immune system and help fight respiratory infections, including colds, coughs and the flu. Thyme has soothing properties to give relief for respiratory problems, and aids with expelling excess phlegm.
- FENNEL SEED: is a very soothing herb which has been in use for many years to give relief to chronic bronchial coughs. The volatile oils in this herb have antiseptic properties which can help in the fight against respiratory infections.
- PEPPERMINT LEAF ESSENTIAL OIL: acts as an antispasmodic to help calm chronic coughs and opens the airways.
